One Day. No auditions. Just the joy of singing a cappella harmony with a room full of people.
WHAT IS A POP-UP CHOIR?
Sacramento Pop Choir’s “Pop Up Choir” series lets you sing in a choir for one day only. It’s a celebration of music and the connective power of collective harmony singing. Our first Pop Up Choir is taking place on Sunday, Nov. 28th from 3:30-5:30 pm at the CLARA auditorium (2420 N Street, Sacramento).
For each choir, we pick a piece of music to rehearse and sing our hearts out to. In our time together, we'll:
Sing warm-ups
Work through the piece section by section
Break down the lyrics and emotions at play in the song
Shape some key musical moments
And record some casual rehearsal videos of the piece to have for ourselves and share with our friends via social media
Whether you're a choir veteran or have never sung in a group before, you are welcome here; all experience levels are welcome and valued.
OUR SONG THIS TIME AROUND
We’ll celebrate the holidays by singing “Snowy Day” by R&B legends Boyz II Men. The song was composed for the short film “Snowy Day,” based on Ezra Jack Keating’s award-winning 1962 picture book. This classic children’s book was one of the first picture books to feature an African-American child and remains a bestseller 64 years later.
LEARNING THE MUSIC
Your order confirmation will include sheet music and vocal recordings of each part.
Please come to the gathering having already familiarized yourself with the part you’d like to sing, so we can spend our time together diving into the joys of connection and expression in the music rather than teaching parts one by one. That said, we don’t want you to stress about memorizing things or getting it perfect. That’s the beauty of group singing. We’ll all be there to support each other.
