Conductor’s Note
Welcome to Movie Night!
I have a confession: I’ve never actually been a big movie person. In fact, I somehow managed to make it well into the late ‘00s before seeing Titanic, which I think is a feat unto itself. However, despite not being one for the big screen, I’ve always been a big fan of movie music, even if I haven’t necessarily seen the films that the songs come from. I think that’s one of the things that makes tonight’s concert so much fun: even if you haven’t seen the movie a song is from, you’re likely to still recognize it and hopefully enjoy it as much as I did when selecting it for our program. It seems impossible to narrow down all the possible choices for a concert of movie music, but we’ve tried to span the history of filmmaking with our show tonight, going back as far as the classic “Over the Rainbow” from The Wizard of Oz all the way to the title song from one of the most recent James Bond installments, “Skyfall.” If you find yourself tonight in the audience thinking that you might like to be up on stage with us for our next concert, consider registering for our upcoming term starting on March 28, Road Trip! We’d love to have you join us.
For now, enjoy the show!
